Lumber
Only the finest quality lumber can make the finest quality fence. Northern White Cedar has been our wood of choice since 1933. Cedar is listed by the U.S. Forest Service as one of the woods most resistant to decay. Other woods are used when special needs arise. However, we do not treat any of our fence with harmful chemicals or wood preservatives.

Milling |
Milling
Because we have our own mills in Chester and Detroit, Maine, Walpole is ever sensitive to the value of trees and the years they take to grow. Therefore we use our own specially designed milling equipment that allows us to cost-effectively use the most wood from each tree. Every foot of Northern White Cedar is cut specifically for our fence parts. Milling to the proper size and proportion results in better looking, longer lasting fence.

In our manufacturing facility, milled parts are crafted and transformed into exceptional fence. Experienced and highly skilled woodworkers use machinery specially designed by Walpole, ensuring that all manufacturing jobs meet our high standards of symmetry and balance, from the substantial dowels and joints, to the solid, aesthetically pleasing proportions.

Design Consultation |
Design Consultation
Our design consultants are the best trained in the industry. They work with you, your builder, or landscape architect to help you choose the right fence for your home – one that will perfectly complement the house style and landscape. If you live within our retail area, a consultant will walk your property, take measurements, discuss options, offer drawings, and develop a detailed proposal for your approval. We can even work from your own drawings. Walpole fence experts also work outside the Northeast region. In fact, for years, we have helped consumers and tradespeople nationwide with fence design and manufacture.

Staining |
Staining
Walpole has designed and constructed a new technologically advanced wood fence stain facility. First one coat of acrylic latex stain is applied by a state-of-the-art high pressure machine in a monitored and controlled environment. The coated fence is moved to a drying oven and then each piece is sanded and buffed. A further coating of stain is then applied. When the process is finished, the fence is carefully wrapped, packed, and made ready for delivery. The full, uniform coverage ensures a coating of the wood that is unmatched throughout the industry. It is far superior to staining after the fence has been installed, and it eliminates mess in your yard and garden. Walpole is proud to partner with Sherwin Williams®, the leader in premium coatings for more than 135 years, and to offer 14 standard colors. We can also custom-mix stain to meet your color requests.

Installation |
Installation
Our trained employees have long-since perfected the art of proper fence installation. Walpole experts make certain that posts are dug to the proper depth for the size and style of fence. Then, the posts are tamped all the way up so the fence is perfectly straight and sturdy. Each section is carefully aligned and fastened securely to the posts. At all times, your grounds are treated with care and respect. We even shovel the earth onto canvas mats to protect your landscape. Walpole ships fence and provides installation nationwide. For the do-it-yourselfers, we provide detailed installation instructions, or, if you have employed the services of a landscape architect we will happily work with them, no matter where in the country you are located.
